Profile
Dr. Madhuri S Balaji graduated from University of Bangalore, Karnataka. Subsequently she underwent Fellowship in Diabetology at the prestigious Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. She has also undergone Clinical and research training at St.Barthelomew`s hospital, London.
Presently she is the Senior consultant Diabetologist at Dr Balaji Diabetes Care Centre and Dr Seshiah Diabetes Research Institute.
She is the recipient of Dr J C Patel and Dr B C Mehta Best Original Research Paper Award under the category of Original Research articles by Journal of Association of Physicians of India (2004).
She has about 100 research papers / manuscripts and articles published in various National and International Journals.
She is the Treasurer of the Diabetes In Pregnancy Study Group India (DIPSI).
She is the Project coordinator for Gestational Diabetes Screening in Tamil Nadu. This is one of the pilot projects in the country funded by the World Diabetes Foundation, recognized by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The prevalence of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus was 16%. Based on the finding of this project, The Health and Family Welfare Department has issued an order, Letter (D) No.356 dated 14-03-2007, to make screening for diabetes in pregnant women mandatory. She is also the project co-ordinator in the WDF – GDM training of all Govt doctors in diagnosis and treatment of GDM (G.O. issued by The Health and Family Welfare Department, G.O. (D) No. 203, Health and Family Welfare (P1) Department, dt. 05-03-2008)
She is the member of Indian Medical Association, Association of Physicians India, Diabetes In Pregnancy Study group India, Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India, American Diabetes Association and European Association for the Study of Diabetes.
She has conducted several free diabetic camps and free diabetic clinics for the lower socio economic population. She has conducted several Nationwide and State wide TV programs on diabetes awareness including pregnancy and diabetes.
