Prof. Dr. V. Balaji graduated from Kilpauk medical college and completed his Post graduation (M.D. General Medicine) from KMC, Manipal. Subsequently, he underwent Fellowship in Diabetology at the prestigious Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden.

He also completed advanced training in complications of Diabetes at the Steno Diabetes centre, Denmark.

He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Glasgow, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London.

Presently he is the Director and Senior Consultant Diabetologist at Dr. Balaji Diabetes Care Centre and Dr. Seshiah Diabetes Research Institute.

He has recently received the Vocational Excellence Award from The TN Dr. M. G. R. Medical University. He is the recipient of the International Diabetic Federation fellowship award in 1995.
